A Case for Sisal

🌱 Sustainability: Embracing Eco-Conscious Fashion 🌱

We believe that luxury and sustainability should go hand in hand. That's why we prioritize eco-friendly practices throughout our supply chain. From responsibly sourced materials to ethical production processes, we take every step possible to reduce our environmental footprint without compromising on the luxurious quality you deserve.

  • Supporting Livelihoods.

According to the Agriculture and Food Authority in Kenya, the Sisal sub-sector support approximately 30,000 farmers with a potential to support X5 (five times this number) 150,000 farmers.

Sisal weavers working informally earn an income from weaving the sisal fibers thereby directly benefiting from Sisal and its by-products.

  • Environmental Impact.

sisal is a natural fiber that is; energy-efficient, easily recyclable, and biodegradable it’s a renewable resource carbon-neutral.

  • Conservation Efforts.

Sisal is a great alternative as a Non- Forest Timber Product (NFTP) for communities. Not to mention that during the dry season, its flowers help in the conservation of honey bees in Arid areas.

Shaba & Sisal

Our commitment to understanding Shaba’s value chain starts from the SISAL plant.

We have invested time, and effort into having meaningful conversations, with the different stakeholders including; small-scale sisal farmers, large-sisal plantation owners and employees, different sisal weaving groups across Kenya, and other likeminded academic researchers with published papers on Sisal & its by-products not forgetting manufactures working with Sisal.

Validating hypotheses, pushing boundaries to what we believe can be achieved with sisal. Our research paper done by Gloria Kisilu, Founder of The Shaba.

In short, we are 100% Sisal Nerds 🤓
